The idea is that although the lights are electrically in parallel, the wiring "daisy chains" from one to the next. The switch can tie into the chain at either end or in the middle, it doesn't matter. Now with two switches, it gets a little more interesting - you want different kind of switches, and three wires plus ground between the switches.
Unscrew the wire nut holding the two white wires together. Strip the last one inch of the new white wire, and place it next to the other white wires.
