DS is very different from DS2/3. You cannot respect your character. If you do something wrong then you are screwed and have to start over or tolerate your mistake. Its perfectly understandable for a new player to want other people's input. You can simply carry on and ignore their posts.

Uchi is one of the best weapons in the game and you can use it to make one of the few actually good boss weapons in the game. It does scale almost entirely with dex so from an efficiency stand point it may not be the best for you. You might want to try and find a quality (str/dex) scaling alternative instead.
Use the Uchigatana for PVE, if you plan to PVP with it, expect to only kill noobs. It is easy to get bleed resist, and bleed is the main reason to use uchigatana.
