I've blown up gates with 5 grenades, 4 placed in the ground and i drop and run for the 5th. However it's not every time. I've gone through 8 before and not even made a dent.

You can use a hatchet as a hammer. Axes, Hatchets and Pickaxes will also dismantle walls. You can use the pick axe on ps4 to build a foundation. I've played on servers that allowed you to use the pick axe for setting the post but not sure if thst was part of a mod or not.

You can add a platform for looking and shooting over or you can turn it in to a gate. I will focus on turning it in to a gate to answer the OP's question. Now is when you need the wire and pliers.
