I loved the estoc in both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, but the Dark Souls 2 version seems a bit underwhelming. It has lower scaling and lower base damage than the rapier, and because criticals are much harder to get this time around, the whole "high crit damage" aspect of thrustings swords seems to be a lot less useful.

I use a hex mage so I already set him up with a dark estoc. :) The rapier only needs 5str 12dex, where the estoc requires 12/12, but yh it wasn't really a serious suggestion as it all depends on preference, if you don't like the parry on R2 the rapier is no good tbh.Bait out the running attack seems to be your best bet. The Estoc 1H R2 is quite simply the best move in the game. Not only does it pierce shields, but it is extremely fast, can combo into a normal stab, and even out-ranges spears/rapier pokes. Id say Estoc simply because it has a better moveset IMO. Ricards R2 is cool, but you can only use it against some slowmoving enemies.
